middle ground
you leave me on this middle ground
taking your sweet little time about it
keep me guessing if you’ll ever really understand
I’m in your hand
on middle ground
all around
I can feel the judgments come crashing down
for things that you might not have done if I had tried to stop it
I’ve fallen from the cloud on which I used to stand
and here I land
on middle ground
do I push you too hard or not hard enough?
do I give you too little?
do I ask for too much?
some days are great, some days you’re so tough
and you don’t respond to my touch.
I’m sleeping with a ghost
My God, where did you go?
without a sound
I wait it out until I’m found
while you wonder if it’s worth your precious time if you doubt it
I know you used to love me but I need to know today
and it’s okay
either way
but I just can’t stay
on middle ground
SIXSTEP is proud to announce the release of their new single, “Middle Ground”.
Originally released as an acoustic track on "A Dangerous World", "Middle Ground" was arranged by bassist Jason Peed for the "Dangerous World" album release concert on 4 April 2009. Melancholic horn melodies interweave with Al Rahn's expressive vocals, all set to the backdrop of Elliot Koenig's dark, swampy, Robert Johnson-esque guitar. The song also marks tenor player Ricky Hopkins' first recording as a permanent member of Sixstep.
The lyrics reflect on a turbulent affair between vocalist Al Rahn, his girlfriend, and his best friend around the time he joined SIXSTEP. To amplify the themes of uncertainty, longing and confusion, “Middle Ground” was recorded unplugged for "A DANGEROUS WORLD", and this album version is included on this single release.
A music video for “Middle Ground” is also currently in post-production by Blue Artists Films, and will be released in September 2010.
Also included:
"21st Century Schizoid Man" (Sixstep cover of a King Crimson classic)
"Middle Ground (album version)" (from "A Dangerous World")
